In the early 1920’s Alf Price local Blacksmith had his Smithy business next door to the cottage where his parents lived. After his parents had died, he got together with William (Bill) Stubbs who was a Funeral Director and in 1946 Price and Stubbs was born.

Richard Stubbs (Bill’s son) went to college initially to study Joinery and straight after that joined the business where his joinery skills came in handy making and fitting the coffins.

In 1969 Bill was taken ill and Richard took on his father’s role of running the business alongside Alf until his retirement.

The premises were surrounded at that time by many buildings to the right was the Naval Club and behind was the larger factory of Quickford and Quartz who were manufacturers of ground glass laboratory glassware.

In the 1990’s all around Mill Street was redeveloped and split by the new ring road. The glass factory was demolished along with  the Naval Club and the whole surrounding area was re developed for a new supermarket with carpark and petrol station opposite. (now Morrisons). Richard took the opportunity along with his wife Margaret to redesign the premises and turn them into a purpose-built Funeral Home fit for the modern day.

In 2005 Richard and Margaret were looking to sell the business and wanted it to be taken on by people with the same family values and community spirit.

A Boulton & Sons Ltd. was owned by Mark & Nigel Boulton and their mother Ann. They owned and ran their family business of Harold H Leese in Stoke. At the very first meeting the criteria for family values and professionalism that Richard and Margaret had been looking for was met and the transfer/sale went ahead.

Richard then continued in the business as a guiding hand until his untimely death in 2008.

We are very proud of our heritage of 78 years and understand the important role that we hold in serving our local community at their time of need.
